Kallanthattil Gurukkal, a master of the oldest Indian martial art ‘Kalaripayattu’, and the man who made many successful kings and armies across Kerala in the 1700s, somehow fell off the pages of history. And so, not even his individual name is known today! Let’s make amends by familiarising ourselves with the only available memories of him found in ‘Aitihyamala’ written by the renowned Sanskrit-Malayalam scholar, Kottarathil Sankunni.
