In the mid-twentieth century, the renowned epigraphist Nelamangala Lakshmi Narayana chanced upon a washing stone in the South Kasargod region, Kerala, with an almost erased Kannada inscription. He requested the lady using it for an impression of the writing for a detailed study. And in those lines, he found Mochabbarassi, the forgotten hero of the 10th century Puttur tribals.

The stone is now erected before the Kasargod masjid.
