Tiger Comics tells inspiring true stories of India in a whole new light.
As one of the world’s oldest civilizations, India has been blessed with a history that reflects the glory of mankind. India’s spiritual texts and its treasure trove of fables, folklore, and oral traditions display the inherent richness of the human mind while illuminating the path one must take to seek the eternal enlightenment. It is in this fertile ground the Indian stories were born. The sheer diversity of our country ensured that a wide and complex range of tales evolved from these texts that captured the traditional language and customs of different regions, religious and social groups, and tribes.
The wisdom of these stories is universal and relevant even today, making interesting and also important to tell. We wish to throw light on this kaleidoscopic world of stories with our monthly issues, acquainting you with India’s magnificent past and letting you experience the life and times of a bygone era through them. For when we know what we were yesterday, we know what we can be tomorrow!
Stories are a window to the world around us.
India has a long tradition of comic readership. Since they began, Indian comics have become synonymous with the visual reinvention of Indian stories; from the great epics, mythology, history, literature, oral folktales and many other sources. Most of these publications present Indian stories as they are, without a unique spin of their own. But at Tiger Comics, we believe that a story’s background and context is as important as the story itself. As a collective of researchers, writers and artists, we look at age-old stories in a fresh light. And we tell them in a way that today’s children could truly understand.
Stories are a window to the world around us. Tiger Comics presents such stories from different walks of Indian life. By expanding on the everyday minutiae of Indian life instead of limiting to epics or mythology or folktales, we strive to present India not as a stereotypical exotic world but a worldly place that takes an ordinary view about the extraordinary. Take ‘Elephant Tales’, our first issue that throws light on the intimate relationship that has existed between elephants and Indian populace and you’ll get the picture. Instead of delving solely on the mythological aspect of elephants, we have endeavored to bring in a lot of variables that mark the amiable relationship that Indians share with elephants. It is this ‘ordinary-in-extraordinary’ take that sets Tiger Comics apart from countless other comics publications.
